Insight Tours: British Geological Survey

Tuesday 20 March 2018

British Geological Survey

Crowd of people looking at an artefact.

Join Luis Alborno, Building Stones Scientist and Enquiries officer at the British Geological Survey (BGS Edinburgh), in a tour of the BGS Collections, where you will have the chance of exploring their rock store and teaching facilities.

Learn about a wide range of rocks, building stones, mineral ores and curious specimens that are hiding into our vast collections. See and touch rocks and fossils; smell the oil-bearing cores from the North Sea, investigate the truth behind their very own X-files (yes, you’ve read that correctly) and all sorts of other geological curiosities.

Listen to how BGS helps the country when there is an emergency. See how the geological mapping and understanding of a country was (and still is) carried out. And last, but not least, you will see how Historic Environment Scotland and BGS come together to look after our built heritage.

We are committed to developing and promoting inclusive access for all while being sensitive to our special historic environments. Please get in contact if you require further information about the access limitations of this event.
