Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse Settlement

Visitors can use the level gravel car park of the Sumburgh Hotel.
The site is down a steep 8m long ramp and 150m along a wide grass drive, which ends in a level gravel path.
The paths around the site are gravel, and bound stone. There are level changes and protruding archaeological remains.
Some of the Iron Age buildings have narrow (50cm) and low entrances.
Access to the wheelhouse is down very uneven stone steps (no handrail).
The top of the laird’s house is reached via a modern, metal spiral staircase (with handrail).
There are no toilets on site.
