Doune Castle is suitable for:

  • ceremonies
  • photography

Hold your ceremony in a castle fit for ‘Scotland’s uncrowned king’. Doune Castle, a magnificent late 14th-century courtyard castle built for Regent Albany, remains remarkably complete. A striking keep-gatehouse contains the splendid Lord’s Hall, while towering battlements look out over the River Teith to Ben Lomond. Doune has famously had starring roles on screen and could be the perfect location for your special day.

Ceremonies may begin no earlier than:

  • 2.30pm from April to September
  • 1pm from October to March

Great Hall

Capacity: 120 people

Regent Albany made a name for himself by providing great hospitality in this cathedral-like hall. Hosting your wedding here will impress your guests just as much. As well as a minstrels’ gallery and unusual central hearth, the Great Hall has mighty stone walls and a beautifully restored wooden roof.

Duke’s Hall

Capacity: 60 people

This barrel-vaulted hall is arguably one of the best-preserved such halls in Scotland. Have your wedding ceremony against a backdrop that features 19th-century panelling, musicians’ gallery, double fireplace, carved oak screen and period furniture.

The Kitchen

Capacity: 30 people

A beautifully lit, high barrel-vaulted room, where exquisite banquets were once prepared – ideal for an intimate ceremony.

You can hire Doune Castle just for your wedding photographs, even if your ceremony will be held elsewhere.
