1 Overview

The Admissions Team would like to announce some exciting changes for the 2018/19 season:

As part of our focus to help improve the visitor experience at some of our busiest sites, we are rolling out capacity-managed timeslots to the below attractions from February:

  • Edinburgh Castle
  • Urquhart Castle
  • Skara Brae

Please note all visits must now be booked in advance to guarantee entry at these sites. This will be for all visits, i.e. group/FIT entry as well as those for Explorer/Scottish Heritage Pass.

Timeslots for these sites will be available to book through the Group Sales portal from early February.

We are also looking at improving the ticket collection procedure and parking facilities at Stirling Castle.

2 Edinburgh Castle

There will be five timeslots available to book each day at Edinburgh Castle as part of our on-going focus on improving the admissions procedure.

Please choose the timeslot based on your groups’ intended arrival time. Your clients can arrive any time within the chosen slot.

3 Urquhart Castle

Brand new timeslots are being introduced for groups who require a coach bay for the duration of their visit.

Each time slot is linked to an available coach bay and will last a maximum of 2 hours.

Groups are kindly asked to arrive and leave within their chosen timeslot as you will be unable to remain parked on site after your allocated time slot expires.

Coaches dropping off or collecting passengers do not require a pre-booked slot.

4 Skara Brae

Groups visiting Skara Brae must pre-book to secure a coach bay. Each slot will last a maximum of 2 hours.

Groups are kindly asked to arrive and leave within their chosen timeslot as you will be unable to remain parked on site after your allocated time slot expires.

Coaches dropping off or collecting passengers do not require a pre-booked slot.

5 Stirling Castle

We are introducing a brand new ticket collection area in the Clan & Craft Shop, located on the esplanade, in an effort to streamline the admission journey. Tour Leaders should exchange their voucher at the till point while passengers wait on the coach. Tickets can be issued to your passengers when they disembark from the coach before going to the entrance point.

We are working with the facilities team at Stirling Castle to review the existing parking options on the esplanade, with an aim to bring improved services. Due to limited capacity, drivers may be asked to move their coach and are asked not to take their scheduled breaks on site.

In an effort to limit congestion on the esplanade, we will be halting all photo stops during the summer season (26 March to 31 October).

Visitors are reminded that coach parking facilities are for visits to Stirling Castle only.
