Visit a Place

Festive opening hours

Enjoy the holidays! Here's some useful information on our properties over the Christmas and New Year period.

Snow covered Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness

Christmas

All our staffed sites will be closed on the 25 and 26 December. Between 27 and 31 December normal opening hours apply.

Go to the 'Visit a place' section of our website for full details on all of our properties and their opening times.

New Year

Most of our properties will be closed on the 1 and 2 January, with the following exceptions:

Edinburgh Castle

1 January: 11am to 5pm (last entry 4pm)

2 January: 9.30am to 5pm (last entry 4pm)

Stirling Castle

1 January: 11am to 5pm (last entry 4.15pm)

2 January: 9.30am to 5pm (last entry 4.15pm)

Urquhart Castle

1 January: 11am to 4.30pm (last entry 3.45pm)

2 January: 9.30am to 4.30pm (last entry 3.45pm)

Explorer Passes

If you’re using an Explorer Pass over the festive period, please be aware that you will not be able to use your pass on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (25 and 26 December). You will also be limited on where you can use them on 1 and 2 January: Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle and Urquhart Castle are open, but our other staffed sites will be closed. We advise planning your visits carefully around the festive season to get the most from your pass.

Unexpected Closures

Occasionally a property has to close at short notice, therefore if travelling any distance to visit please call before setting off to check they are open.

For property updates and unexpected site closures, visit our Closure Page or follow us on Twitter (#hsclosure).
