Medieval Construction Science Show

Learn about the science behind the construction of masterpieces of medieval building!

This engaging show for P2 to S2 pupils explores the engineering of medieval buildings to explain how huge castles and abbeys were built – and why many still stand tall today.

Pupils join in fun, interactive demonstrations as they follow the journey of a block of stone from quarry to arch. Science and technology principles such as gravity, forces and pulleys are examined along the way.

Our Medieval Construction Science Show is adapted to suit your pupil's particular year group. Shows are free but must be booked in advance. Bookings are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

The activity will take place in the Maeshowe Visitor Centre (Stenness).
