1 Overview

This scheme awards grants to fund the preparation of maintenance plans. Up to £6,000 may be awarded per application.

Modest spending on regular maintenance can:

  • reduce the need for costly repairs
  • protect the fabric of your building
  • save you money in the longer term

Maintenance Plan Grants may be awarded to historic buildings of outstanding architectural or historic interest.

2 Eligibility

Individuals and organisations may apply for Maintenance Plan Grants.

The historic building must be of outstanding architectural or historic interest.

Applicants must have legal responsibility for the repair of a historic building.

You must usually either:

  • own the building
  • hold a full repairing lease, which has at least 21 years to run

You must show that your property is open to the public for at least 25 days per year.

3 Criteria for awarding grants

Grants may cover up to 75% of the cost of a maintenance plan. A suitably accredited professional adviser must prepare the plan.

We must consider it beneficial for the historic building to have its own maintenance plan.

4 How to apply

We accept applications for Maintenance Plan Grants throughout the year.

The closing date is 30 November each year, after which time we consider all applications at once.
