Once known as The House of Ruthven, Huntingtower Castle was a lordly residence for over 300 years and was associated with two noble families – the Ruthvens and the Murrays.
Comprising two fine and complete tower houses, built just three metres apart in the 15th and 16th centuries and joined in later years, the castle’s eastern tower has a striking hall with a splendid painted ceiling.
Huntingtower has in its time hosted some famous visitors, and been linked with dramatic events, but it is perhaps best remembered romantically as the honeymoon destination of Mary Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley.
