
Saddle quern and rubbing stone
The base stone and roughly spherical rubber, were found at the Iron Age settlement at Jarlshof. It is of a type somewhere between a trough and saddle quern with a shallow but elongated grinding surface. The quern and rubber stone would have been used together to grind grain over 2000 years ago.
