Working with other public bodies

How we work with others in the Key Agencies Group on planning issues, and with planning authorities.

Historic Environment Scotland is part of the Scottish Government Key Agencies Group, all members of which engage closely with the planning system. Various agreements help us to work closely with one another on planning issues.

Joint Working Agreement

Joint working agreements between Historic Environment Scotland and planning authorities set out current working practices and goals for how we work with individual authorities.

The aim is to ensure that our public body and the planning authorities work consistently and transparently to an agreed standard to manage Scotland’s historic environment.

We also have agreements with other public bodies and members of the Key Agencies Group.

A joint working agreement was signed between Forestry Commission Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland in 2017. It describes how the two organisations will work together to benefit their respective remits and responsibilities.
