Dunstaffnage Castle Vacancies

The post holder will have the opportunity to work at two sites in the Oban area.

Dunstaffnace Castle welcomes around 20,000 visitors per year and is a dual staffed monument with a separate visitor centre. Bonawe Iron Furnace is outside the village of Taynuilt and sees around 4,000 visitors over the summer season and is single staffed.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work both as part of a team and on their own across the two sites. Both have a retail area with a range of gifts and souvenir.

A full Visitor Operations Job Description is available below but standard Dunstaffnage Castle and Bonawe Iron furnace duties may include:

  • Welcoming HES visitors and assisting them to have an enjoyable and informative visit
  • Promoting HES Retail products, in an aim to drive business and enhance the visitor’s experience
  • Ensuring that the site maintains a high standard of presentation, through daily cleaning/adherence to Health & Safety procedures
  • Provide visitors with information relating to the history of the site through creative conservation and where appropriate guided tours
  • To assist with visits and events from school groups, community groups and external organisations
  • To follow HES policy and procedure in relation to Health & Safety, Human Resources and Finance where applicable

Both Dunstaffnage Castle and Bonawe Iron Furnace are interesting and unique sites which can attract high visitor numbers, particularly during the summer months. Visitor Operations staff must be dedicated to delivering excellent customer service, in accordance with the Visit Scotland Grading Scheme.
