Due to essential maintenance, Argyll’s Lodging is closed to visitors until further notice.

Admire Scotland’s most splendid and complete example of a 17th-century townhouse. Located on the approach to Stirling Castle, the grand Renaissance property was fit to receive, and impress, royal guests.

The fine architecture of Argyll’s Lodging marks it out as a property intended for a great nobleman serving the royal court. Likewise, its location couldn’t have been more convenient for visiting court.

Entry to Argyll’s Lodging is by guided tour only. You must have a Stirling Castle entry ticket to visit Argyll's Lodging. Please ask staff at the castle for more information.

What to see and do

Stop to marvel at the Renaissance façade and main entrance – and look forward to many more splendours within
Enter the Drawing Room to see its grand fireplace, recreated tapestries and elaborate chair of state
Enjoy the High Dining Room’s impressive and precious painted decoration – which may also have adorned other rooms
Peek inside My Lady’s Closet, the tiny room where Lady Anna, Argyll’s second wife, would have spent much time
